Free-rider Problem
The potential for an individual to try to avoid contributing funds to pay for provision of a public good because he or she presumes that others will do so.
A common example of a free rider problem is found in national defense. All citizens of a country benefit from being defended; however, individuals who do not pay their taxes are still protected by the same national defense, even though they do not pay their fair share of this resource.
