Global Macro Database

The Global Macro Database offers a comprehensive collection of macroeconomic data encompassing 46 variables—including GDP, inflation, government finance, trade, and unemployment—across 243 countries, spanning the period form 1086 to today. It integrates information from 32 contemporary sources, such as the IMF, the World Bank, and OECD, along with 78 historical datasets.

The database was compiled by Karsten Müller, Chenzi Xu, Mohamed Lehbib, and Ziliang Chen. Their work is detailed in the paper titled "The Global Macro Database: A New International Macroeconomic Dataset," published in 2025 and available through the link below.

The database is free to download in various formats including for Stata and R.
