Historically, the average for India from 1971 to 2014 is 14.94 percent. The minimum value, 4 percent, was reached in 1984 while the maximum of 34.31 percent was recorded in 2014. We show the energy imports for India and other countries. The measure equals the total energy used in the country minus its production of energy. A negative sign means that the country uses less energy than it produces, i.e. it is a net exporter of energy. A positive sign means that it is a net importer. The numbers are percent of the energy used.

Definition: Net energy imports are estimated as energy use less production, both measured in oil equivalents. A negative value indicates that the country is a net exporter. Energy use refers to use of primary energy before transformation to other end-use fuels, which is equal to indigenous production plus imports and stock changes, minus exports and fuels supplied to ships and aircraft engaged in international transport.
