Discount Rate

The interest rate that the Federal Reserve charges on discount window loans that it gives to depository institutions.

Discount rates vary from country to country. For example, in 2012 the discount rate in the U.S. was 0.50%; in Oman it was 0.05%; in China it was 3.25%; and in Zimbabwe it was 975%.
