The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development

The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) is an international organization whose original aim was to finance the reconstruction of nations devastated by World War II. Since its establishment in 1945 the Bank has expanded its mission to fight poverty by extending loans to governments, and public enterprise with a government guarantee of repayment subject to general conditions. Since the early 1990s the IBRD has also provided financing to the post-Socialist states of Eastern Europe and the republics of the former Soviet Union.

As part of the World Bank Group, IBRD has several publications such as poverty assessment, social and structural reviews, public expenditure reviews, and sector reports.
